Gov Ortom
A few weeks ago, it it was made known to Benue people after the governor called all Christian leaders to a solemn fasting and prayer in regards to the choice of the next Tor Tiv- the paramount ruler among the Tiv that the next Tor Tiv would swear by the bible and not by the 'swem' which is the traditionally ordained way.
This ideology was kicked at by all- old and young. Much has been said as to why tradition cannot be broken in the coronation of a new Tor Tiv, however, it is not certain if the plan would be changed.
I know well that political happenings always have undertones, a hidden agenda why something is said or done - crocodile smile. I decided to think outside the box to see possibly, the reason for a sudden decision to change the laid down tradition.
Bingo!!! I Cracked and hacked into the mystery.
Prof. James Ayatse, one time vice chancellor federal university of Agriculture makurdi, also a one time vice chancellor Federal University, Dutsi-Ma, Katsina State, also one time senator aspirant Benue Northeast federal constituency on the plat form of PDP, a full time deeper life member and worker, one time Benue State Deeper Life Campuses Coordinator is aspiring for the most exalted traditional office among the Tiv.
Is it OK for a Deeper lifer to swear by swem?
Church aside, this is tradition and Prof understands what exactly he is up to. The traditions should not be bent to favour a deeper life aspirant for the Tor Tiv. If he be the chosen one, let him swear by swem and not the bible. Traditions should always be left as handed down by ancestors especially where it is not barbaric. The next Tor Tiv must swear by swem.
