As part of activities to mark the opening of the Ikom township stadium, the Governor of Cross river state, Senator Ben Ayade has reinstated the Governor’s cup.

It will be recalled that players such as Mfon Udo who is playing for Eyimba currently was discovered from the Governor’s cup.
Mfon Udo played for diamond stars and won the tournament that year before he was signed by Calabar rovers then he moved to Akwa united where he ended the season as highest goalscorer in the Nigerian football league and was signed by Eyimba where he currently plays his football.
The tournament has been reinstated by Governor Ben Ayade to be called the Ayade mega cup. It is to mark the opening of the Ikom township stadium.
Teams across the 18 LGAs are to register before the 31st of October when the tournament is scheduled to open.
