MTN Nigeria has been taken to Senate on the accusationof illegall transfer of some funds from Nigeria.
The CEO, Moolman has this statement to the Senate:
“MTNN is a Nigerian company and is proud to be conducting business in Nigeria. It therefore categorically refutes any accusations of money laundering, economic sabotage or tax evasion levied against it,”
"All monies repatriated by the company were in respect of dividend payments and capital divestment originating from legitimate foreign direct investment"
“The dividend payments were made to shareholders who imported foreign capital for investment in MTNN,” he said.
In his statement, he also exonerated Nigeria’s Trade and Investment Minister Okechukwu Elenemah from the alleged capital flight.
“We would like to state that Dr Elenemah has never been a director or shareholder of MTNN. that“MTNN is a Nigerian company and is proud to be conducting business in Nigeria. It therefore categorically refutes any accusations of money laundering, economic sabotage or tax evasion levied against it,”

In his statement, he also exonerated Nigeria’s Trade and Investment Minister Okechukwu Elenemah from the alleged capital flight saying;
“We would like to state that Dr Elenemah has never been a director or shareholder of MTNN. The minister had not connived with the company to move funds out of Nigeria.”
MTN has made a lot of money from Nigerian economy. They are one of the biggest Telecom in Nigeria.
Although many Nigerians have been complaining of their excesses. They won't stop sending the bulk SMSs. Speaking with mynaijland, Mr Benjamin said that he won't be recharging his sim anymore. Some others have threatened to drop the sim soon.
