Emerging news: Benue state University on the Verge of Closure (see details)
This was posted by the BSU CAMPUS Publicity Secretary Lubem Terkula
Following the resolution that Pave way for the just concluded Asuu strike BsuChapter and the state government, that the Earn academic allowance EAA be paid from the Internal Generating Revenue of the University which at this point in time the University is running out of Capital to Fund the University
The VC Prof. Msugh Mose kembe has move to call a press conference to educate and enlighten the stakeholders in particular and the students in general about the Financial Position of the University.
BSU, being a public institution, is financed from grants from the State Government, which is no longer Coming, also heavily relies on school fees from its students and other Internally Generated Revenues to pay her Staff EAA.
The State University under the leadership of Prof. Msugh kembe, when he came on Board, saw this coming went on quickly to increase the school fees which was proven abortive.
I wish to confirm that the University has not increased its school fees despite the Economic Recession. The University remains one of the few State owned institutions that charge modest fees. In all matters concerning our students, their interests remain my Paramount Consideration.
The VC Expressed Worries and Fears that if things continues this way he is Afraid the University will shut down soon, I mean very Soon.
And that parents of most defaulting students had given them their schools fees but maintained that the students had spent the monies while some diverted their fees to the MMM Scheme, Bet 9ija and others.
It is, however, disheartening to note that the University has discovered that despite the fact that the University operates an enviable stable academic calendar, mobilises its graduating students Youth Service without delay, many of our students still owe school fees running to One point Five Billion Naira.
If this trend continues, there is no way the University could perform its Financial Responsibilities.
